MPIF – 2016
Indo-MIM Pvt. Ltd. (Indo-MIM) has received Design Excellence Awards at the 2016 World Congress held between June 5th and 8th, 2016 on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials (POWDERMET2016) at Boston, USA.
The Award of Distinction in the Lawn & Garden/ Off-Highway Category was given to Indo-US MIM Tec Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, India, for a MIM-17-4 PH stainless steel diesel leak-off union (Figure 10) made for Lombardini, Italy. The part goes into the fuel injection of a line of Kohler diesel engines that are assembled in JCB MIDI and mini excavators, compact wheeled loaders, and Teletruk forklifts. Custom ceramic setters are used in sintering to maintain the straightness of the four tube-like features and the pitch between two center tubes, so critical for assembly. The part is molded close to net shape, needing only a reaming operation to achieve straightness of the long hole. A conversion from a previously used plastic part, whose performance suffered in the tough working environment and load/vibrations in the field, the MIM part delivered savings of around 10% through improved quality.
Indo-MIM recognized at Shimano Vendors Award in Singapore

Indo-MIM won the “Shimano Vendors Award 2015” under the “Excellent Management Support category” at Raffles Marina Ltd., Atrium Compass Ballroom; Singapore on 12th March 2016. Indo-MIM’s extra-ordinary capability to offer the best of world-class technology at competitive prices with an eye on consistent development, delivery and quality was applauded at the ceremony. Mr. Manjunath N, Team Leader- Product Engineering; Indo-MIM received the award from Mr. Chia Chin Seng, MD of SPL/SCM & Head of S.E.A. Indo-MIM has been recognized thrice at such a platform for its excellent commitment and co-operation with Shimano.

Indo-US MIM Tec. Pvt. Ltd. (Indo-MIM), a leading global supplier of Metal Injection Molded (MIM) products was honored to receive the IEI Industry Excellence Award 2015 in the category of Manufacturing & Processing, in recognition of the outstanding performance last year. The award was presented to Indo-MIM Chairman Dr. Krishna Chivukula by the Hon'ble Governor of Tripura Mr. Tathgata Roy on December 18, 2015, at the Inaugural Ceremony of 30th Indian Engineering Congress at Guwahati. The event was conducted by The Institution of Engineers (India).

Schaeffler-Best Delivery Supplier Award 2014
During the year 2011, Schaeffler was sourcing for potential suppliers who could facilitate with the development of shift finger, using the investment casting process. This was a first of its kind attempt as shift finger was never developed using the investment casting process anywhere in the world. Schaeffler’s search for a suitable supplier ended when Indo-MIM acknowledged Schaefller’s challenge to develop the part. To further augment dedication to this particular development, Indo-MIM installed a state of the art robotic process for shell molding. Considering the involvement of complex operations, various trials were conducted with different design fixtures to set up robust machining processes. The most critical phase during this development was to achieve geometric dimensions & tolerances on coulis & ramp profile. The complex chain of supply chain management involved during the process was handled proficiently by Indo-MIM. Indo-MIM currently supplies about 1000 shift fingers per day, with zero defects to Schaeffler. The performance of this product has been highly acclaimed by end customers as well. Indo-MIM is now one of Schaeffler’s strategic suppliers.
Indo-US MIM Tec. Pvt. Ltd. (Indo-MIM) has received six MPIF PM Design Excellence Awards at the recently concluded 2015 World Congress on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials (PM2015) at San Diego, California.
Grand Prize in Off-Highway Segment : Indo-MIM won the award for four MIM components—catcher, tension bar, and new base cap & body—. The components are used in proportional valves found in hydraulic circuits of off-highway and farm equipment. The two parts forming the new base are made of MIM 17-4 PH stainless steel, while the catcher and tension bar are formed of 4605 low-alloy steel. All dimensions of the two parts forming the new base are achieved in the as-MIM condition, including the internal thread in the body. The catcher receives a grinding and burnishing to attain the OD tolerance and surface finish, while the tension bar needs only a turning operation to form an external thread without a parting line. Heat-treated properties include a minimum density of 7.5 g/cm³, 1,550 MPa ultimate tensile strength, yield strength of 1,400 MPa, 3% elongation, and 42–48 HRC hardness range. The parts were formerly produced via machining, welding, conventional PM, and fastening. By completely re-designing the parts to maximize the advantages MIM offers, the customer obtained savings estimated at 65%, with annual production of 350,000.
Distinction in Automotive Segment : Indo-MIM won the award for a MIM 4605 low-alloy steel top plate that goes into shock absorbers of an American automobile. The complexity of the part—with its 18 holes and six thin ribs that connect to a ring around a central hole—presented a challenge to complete filling. The gating and venting system played a key role in producing this part defect free. It is produced close to net shape, with surface grinding to achieve flatness and a facing operation to achieve height tolerance being the only secondary operations performed. After heat treating, the part has a density of 7.5 g/cm³, ultimate tensile strength of 1,550 MPa, yield strength of 1,400 MPa, elongation of 3%, and a hardness range of 42–48 HRC. This application is a new design for MIM and delivers increased repeatability/accuracy of the shock absorber over the previous machined version, with estimated savings of 25%.
Award of Distinction in Hardware Segment: Indo-MIM won the award for MIM 17-4 PH stainless steel parts—front and rear keepers that go into industrial electrical locks. The parts’ complexity, with many cross holes and sharp knurl features, required the use of multiple slides, some moving at different angles. The parts are made close to net shape requiring only a final coining to adjust a small distortion and a tapping operation on the front keeper. The heat-treated properties include density of 7.5 g/cm³, ultimate tensile strength of 1,220 MPa, yield strength of 1,100 MPa, elongation of 7%, and a hardness range of 35–40 HRC. Annual quantities are 20,000 per part.
Award of Distinction in Recreation Segment: Indo-MIM won the award for 4605 low-alloy steel bolt used in a recreational item. Made via MIM, the part replaced one produced by brazing together three machined parts, delivering an estimated 35% cost savings in the process. The part’s design features many cross holes and undercuts, requiring complex side core matchings in the molding cavity. The part has a heat-treated density of 7.5 g/cm³, ultimate tensile strength of 1,550 MPa, yield strength of 1,400 MPa, elongation of 3%, and a hardness range of 28–35 HRC maximum. The fabricator delivers 60,000 pieces annually.
Award of Distinction in Electrical Segment: Indo-MIM won the award for MIM 17-4 PH stainless steel shell that part goes into a charging assembly for mobile phones. The complex geometry of the part, with thin cross sections and internal undercuts, was achieved with a slide-in-slide mechanism moving on specially designed cam tracks. All dimensions are achieved in the as-sintered condition, with properties that include a density of 7.5 g/cm³, ultimate tensile strength of 900 MPa, yield strength of 730 MPa, elongation of 7%, and 35 HRC hardness. The MIM part replaced an earlier design that used sheet metal processing and welding, with an estimated 20% cost savings. Two million of the parts are delivered each month.
Award of Distinction in Electrical Segment: Indo-MIM won the award for two parts—a male fool-proof device and a female polarizer—made via MIM from 4340 low-alloy steel. The parts go into an electric connector assembly made for a leading aircraft manufacturer. Both parts are fabricated to net shape, with all dimensions achieved in the as-MIM condition; this includes the threads, which are formed through auto unwinding in the tooling. The parts have a minimum heat-treated density of 7.5 g/cm³, ultimate tensile strength of 1,500 MPa, yield strength of 1,350 MPa, 4% elongation, and a hardness range of 42–48 HRC. The fabricator delivers 320,000 pieces annually.
Best Supplier Award
In recognition of developing various MIM and IC components, Indo-MIM has been presented with “Best Supplier Award” this year under the category of Value Addition/ Value Engineering (VA/VE); for their efforts in developing various critical components through integrated technology and product innovation. This Award was presented at the recently held Danfoss Supplier Event 2015- India in Chennai on Jan 22-23 2015. Mr. Dan Rohde; Global Procurement Director, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Controls Division and Mr. Prashant Yardi, Global Category Manager presented the award to Mr. Krishna Chivukula Jr., CEO, Indo-MIM for pro-active ideas on VA/VE resulting into mutual business impacts. Going beyond- with cutting edge technology in facilitating with Alternate design and cost effective solutions has resulted into savings for Danfoss.
Indo-MIM Cummins Award
In recognition of developing various MIM and IC components, Indo-MIM has been presented this year with “Best Supplier Innovation Award”, a Memento of recognition by Cummins Inc. for their efforts in developing various critical components through integrated technology and product innovation. This Award was presented at the recently held Cummins India ABO Supplier Conference 2014 in Pune on June 26th 2014.
Indo-US MIM Tec. Pvt. Ltd. (Indo-MIM) has received four MPIF PM Design Excellence Awards at the recently concluded 2014 World Congress on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials (PM2014) at Orlando, Florida.
Indo-MIM has earned the Grand Prize in the Automotive—Engine Category for four MIM parts—Blank discharge check, Stop discharge check valve, Valve discharge check, and CRV spring seat—that goes into a device which controls fuel flow in Gasoline Direct Injection or GDI and pumps. The design was judged by the fabricator to be perhaps the most complex and high‐volume part ever made by MIM. The customer realized cost savings of close to 35%, while the pump performance was improved by modifying the whole geometry to enhance flow dynamics, with the result being a 10%‐to‐20% fuel economy boost.
In the Automotive Chassis category, Indo-MIM received the Award of Distinction for the Spur Gear, which is used in the rear‐door assembly of SUVs to enable their opening in the event of loss of automatic control function. Made via MIM and achieving estimated savings of 30% in the process, this gear is an outstanding example of MIM’s ability to meet close tolerances on concentricity and perpendicularity on a part with such a lengthy gear profile. The fabricator delivers 720,000 parts annually.. In addition to this, Indo-MIM received the Award of Distinction in the Hardware/Appliances Category for three parts—Output shaft, Lever and Cover—that are assembled into the quick‐change mechanism of a Dremel multitool. The mechanism allows for the swapping of any tool bit within seconds.
In the medical/ dental category, Indo-MIM received an Award of Distinction for a Sound tube used in a hearing aid for one of its eminent customer. Fabricated via MIM, the highly complex part achieves all its features in the as-sintered condition, with only glass bead blasting for a better finish performed as a secondary operation. The part provides 20% cost savings over competing forming processes and the fabricator delivers 500,000 parts annually.

Best Safe Worker Award
On the occasion of 43rd National Safety Day Celebrations on 4th March 2014 at Bellary, the Karnataka State Safety Institute (R) (Department of Factories & Boilers) and the National Safety Council, Karnataka Chapter, Bangalore had conducted an award ceremony this year, where in Mr. Nagaraja K.T, from Hoskote Plant won the “Second Best Safe Worker Award “under Best Safe Worker in Large Scale Industries category. The award was presented by honorable Minister of Labor Govt. of Karnataka.
Every year, the Department is actively involved in propagating the occupational safety and health in the registered factories, wherein every time on the occasion of National Safety Day, the department organizes various activities to propagate occupational safety. This is the third consecutive year Indo-MIM winning such awards.
Indo-MIM received an award for Best Exporter- Gold for the year 2011-12 and 2012-13 in Bangalore Rural -District category on 21st February 2014. Organised by Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre (VTPC), the award was presented by Shri Prakash B. Hukkeri, Honorable Minister for Small Scale Industries Muzrai & Sugar to Mr. Anand SK and Mr. Manjunath H of Indo-MIM. Karnataka Chief Minister Mr. Siddaramaiah was the chief guest along with Mr. Anup Pujari, DGFT Delhi; who was the guest of honor at the prestigious occasion.
Karnataka Government had introduced the State Award for best performance in exports in 1992-93 as one of the important steps towards recognizing the efforts of exporters wherein Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre is the nodal agency for selecting and conferring the awards to the companies for their outstanding performance. These awards are an annual event which is aimed at encouraging exporters who have excelled in exporting their products. These awards play an important role in infusing a spirit of healthy competition amongst the industries & exporters of the State to achieve greater export performance.

Indo-MIM gets AS 9100 Rev.C certified
Indo-US MIM Tec. Pvt. Ltd., global leader in supplying precision-engineered products using Metal Injection Molding (MIM) as the core manufacturing technology has recently added another certification to their credit.
Standard AS 9100 Rev.C, which is designed to be used by firms in the aviation and space industries and can be applied throughout the supply chain was credited to Indo-US MIM Tec. Pvt. Murugan visited the plant at Hoskote and presented the certification to Mr. Krishna Chivukula Jr., CEO and Mr. Sai Krishna, Quality Head.
Indo-MIM QMS team set a record by achieving the certification in a short span of two months against the standard lead time of nine-twelve months slated by Industrial Experts and Consultants and at the same time received the certification from UL DQS within three days against the standard lead time of 30 days.
On receiving the certification, Mr. Sai Krishna, Quality Head said, “ We are glad to receive this certification from UL DQS. Since we had established our Quality Management System meeting the AS9100 Rec. C standard requirements, so it’s a pleasure to get recognized for our achievement from UL DQS at this platform. Presently this certification is for the Aviation requirements from the customers and it is definitely a feather in the cap of Indo-MIM”

UL DQS India is the Indian Operation of UL DQS, which is a merger of UL Inc of USA and DQS of Germany, with over 47000 certified sites and presence in more than 100 countries globally. UL DQS India is head-quartered out of Bangalore having presence with offices and auditors across India.
Indo-US MIM bags PM Design Excellence Awards for 3 categories
Indo-US MIM, leaders in precision-engineered products using Metal Injection Molding as the core manufacturing technology, received an award of distinction from the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) at its annual Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards held at Chicago, Illinois on June 26th 2013. In the automotive engine design category, Indo-US MIM received the award for MPIF 2013 PM Design Excellence Awards for the “Threaded Port, Metal Support Ring Sensing element, the tool holder assembly, and the gear segment”.
Threaded Port and the Metal Support Ring Sensing element application is estimated to save the customer 50% over the cost of fabrication using alternate technologies. Tool holder assembly which incorporates two MIM parts—a tool holder and a grip-spring tensioning part—goes into a woodworking tool for fine-detail carving. The MIM design contributes to a LEAN operation for the customer by substantially reducing lead time through the elimination of many processing steps. The fuel-control gear segment goes into a fuel-control device that regulates the entry of fuel into the engine. Converted from a machined part, the gear segment is fabricated via MIM from a low-alloy steel at a savings of 80% over the previous method. The fabricator delivers nearly three million pieces annually to the customer.
This is the second award after 2011 for the innovative and efficient designs developed by the designers. MPIF's Design Excellence Awards recognize designs emphasizing the improved net shape, precision, innovative fabrication methods, production efficiency, sustainability contributions, and manufacturing cost reduction capable with powder metal technology and Indo-US MIM has been fortunate to be recognized globally through this platform.
FIRST INDIAN COMPANY TO WIN PRATT & WHITNEY MCL APPROVAL
Indo-MIM, based on two campuses near Bangalore, has won approvals from Pratt & Whitney America’s Materials Control Laboratory (MCL) to perform non-destructive testing and chromic acid anodizing. The approvals have come after extensive auditing of Indo-MIM by Pratt & Whitney America, and are the first such approvals granted within India.

INDO-MIM gets NADCAP certified
Indo-MIM has received the coveted NADCAP certification in accordance with SAE aerospace Standard AS 7003, for Non Destructive Testing. This is an important milestone in industry as Indo-MIM joins the league of the one of the few companies that has both these important certifications under one roof.
Considering the exclusive focus that India is giving on aviation industry business development and setting up of infrastructure for it, this step from Indo-MIM has been considered very significant in view of the future business scenario.
Export Award for Star Performer- Silver Shield
Indo MIM has received the Export Excellence Award-Silver Shield for Star Performer as Large Enterprises from EEPCINDIA (Engineering Export Promotion Council) consecutive for the 2nd year. The award has been received by Mr. Aswatha Srinivas Asst Manager-Finance from Dr. M.M. Pallam Raju Hon’able Minister of State for Defence Govt. of India on 27.07.2012 at Hyderabad.

At the FKCCI Annual Awards ceremony held recently, Indo-MIM won the "Best Manufacturer Export" Award in the large category.
The award was received by Mr. Shiva Shankar and Anita Sequeira of Indo-MIM from Mr. Murgesh R. Nirani, Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries, Government of Karnataka on 22.06.2012 at Bangalore.The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI) is a 96-year-old trade body in Karnataka, representing the interests of over 2500 members from the industry, trade and services sectors. FKCCI also has nearly 140 local and district-level chambers and industry associations as affiliate members.
This annual event was first instituted in 2006, to recognize and reward the achievements of exporters in Karnataka. The criteria for award nomination includes FOB value of exports, Net foreign exchange earnings, percentage growth over the previous year, products / services exported and destination.

Karnataka State Safety Institute, Department of factories, boilers, Industrial safety and health, Karmika Bhavan , Bengaluru, conducts a STATE LEVEL BEST SAFETY WORKER competition every year for all the manufacturing industries in all sectors by dividing them into various categories like, mega scale, large scale, medium scale and small scale.
The crown of safety decorated M/s Indo-US MIM Tec Pvt Ltd, Hoskote, Bangalore on 4th March 2012 - 41st National safety day, by it winning the STATE LEVEL 1ST PRIZE FOR THE BEST SAFETY WORKER in the Medium Scale Industry category. The prize was distributed by Sri B N Bache Gowda, the honorable Minister for Labour & Sericulture, Government of Karnataka.

Export Award for Star Performer- Silver Shield
Indo-MIM has received the Export Award for Star Performer- Silver Shield in the category of Large Enterprise from EEPCINDIA Southern Region Chennai. The award was received by Mr. Venkatesh Bairy of Indo-MIM from the Governor of Tamil Nadu Dr. K. Rosaiah on 06.12.2011 at Chennai.

Gowri Ventures Achieves AS 9100 Quality standard certification
Gowri Precision Investment Castings, a unit of Indo-MIM, has been recommended for registration to AS9100 Rev C requirements by UL DQS Inc on 26th May 2011.
AS9100 Rev C certification is widely used throughout the aerospace supply chain including design and manufacture of critical parts, by various manufacturing methods and processes. This certification aims to enhance customer satisfaction through continual effective quality and process management. It helps in giving an assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
By getting this certification, Gowri is committed to have the best in the industry practices, improving process consistency and stability in addition to providing value for money to customers in Aviation, Space and Other industries.
Gowri has also secured the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification and plans to go for TS 16949 very soon.

Indo-MIM’s award-winning component was a 17-4PH stainless steel hammer used in a Leatherman Tool Group
A product of Indo-MIM’s metal injection molding process, the intricately complex part performs five of the MUT’s 27 functions. It is formed to a density of 7.5 g/cm3 and has an ultimate tensile strength of 175,000 psi, yield strength of 158,000 psi, heat-treated 35–40 HRC hardness, and a minimum 6% elongation. Secondary operations include threading two tapped holes, age hardening and glass-bead blasting, and an optional blackening treatment performed by Leatherman.

Indo-MIM wins Best Stall Award - International Hardware Show in Las Vegas
For its entry at the recently-held International Hardware Show in Las Vegas, Indo-MIM won the best stall award in the highly competitive category of “10×20' or smaller”. BOSS is a new awards program designed to showcase exhibit design and fabrication at premier trade shows across the United States.
Moulding yet another milestone - Gowri Precision Investment Castings
Gowri Precision Investment Castings, a unit of Indo-MIM, has begun the commercial production in Feb. 2010. With a production facility of about 30,000 sq. ft., this state-of-the-art plant is equipped with machinery from world's reputed manufacturers located in USA, Canada, Australia and India. Its current capabilities include producing precision investment castings in:
- 10 gms to 5 kgs weight
- Carbon, low alloy and tool steels
- Stainless steel in 400, 300 series as well as precipitation hardened steels
- Nickel and cobalt based alloys
Gowri uses waxes and shell materials from world's reputed manufacturers to produce internally sound castings and high quality surface finish. It manufactures precision investment castings, provides finishing and heat treating the castings to make them ready-for-use. It is currently serving customers located in USA, Germany, Belgium and Turkey.
Gowri envisions becoming a leading manufacturer of precision investment castings in ready-to-assemble condition for various market segments including the aerospace and industrial gas turbine (IGT) industries. After establishing leadership in commercial castings market, Gowri will expand to become a major supplier of vacuum casting in titanium and super alloys.
